On Thursday the first of the five test Ashes series commences in Brisbane. To help Australian crowds keep up with the English Barmy Army, the Australian support group the Fanatics have written an Ashes songbook, Six, Jugs & Rock n Roll. However, legal threats mean the book may never be distributed. From the Sunday Mail:
But the Fanatics may have more on their mind than beer prices – they may have to pulp 100,000 Ashes songbooks after being threatened with legal action by publishing giant EMI.
The 16-page Six, Jugs & Rock 'n' Roll booklet which features famous songs with lyrics rewritten to a cricketing theme, cost $20,000 to print and was to be given away to local cricket fans.
Reworked songs included The Monkees' Daydream Believer, Robbie Williams' Rock DJ and The Kinks' Lola.
"I'm flabbergasted they would quash the fun of Australian sports fans trying to have a bit of tongue-in cheek fun," Fanatics organiser Warren Livingstone said yesterday.
"We're not making any money from this."
